Vietnam, not so very long ago the place of a terrible war, is gradually changing from a developing country to one of South-East Asia's economic tigers.
For years, it was a major destination for backpackers who came because of Vietnam's exotic atmosphere, interesting sights and affordable cost of living and travelling. As always, more standard tourists followed after a while, and nowadays, Vietnam is fast becoming a major holiday destination.
The country is home to several UNESCO World Heritage sites, as well as some of the most beautiful landscapes on earth. Its main cities are Hanoi, the political capital, in the north and Ho Chi Minh City (also known as Saigon ), the economic capital, in the south.
