Myanmar is also known as Burma. The country has a long and varied history, from kingdom to outpost of the British Empire to independent country. For decades it has been under the control of a military junta which only gradually has opened the country to tourism.

The main tourist spots are Yangoon (Rangoon), Mandalay, Inle Lake, and of course the huge temple area of Bagan (Pagan).
