Also called The Venice of China, this town of 2,500 years indeed resembles its counterpart in Italy. There are many canals laid out in checkerboard style throughout the city.

Suzhou's main attraction are its many beautiful gardens. Some of the biggest and best known are:

Zhouzheng Yuan (a humble administrator's garden),
Shizilin (Lion's Grove),
Changlangting (Surging Wave Pavilion),
Yiyuan (Garden of Harmony), and
Hanshan Si (Cold Mountain Garden.
